The purpose of our mahi in Murihiku Southland is to improve the lives of whānau through the spirit of kotahitanga. Te Tiriti o Waitangi is central to this kaupapa.
Regional Public Service Commissioners were established to improve the alignment and coordination of public services in the regions, how they deliver services, invest in communities, and engage with partners and communities. Regional Public Service Commissioners and their tīma work across the social, economic, skills and workforce and environmental sectors to support coordination and collaboration.

What you'll be doing | He aha tāu e mahi ana
The role will specifically support one of our key priorities– Resilience to Organised Crime in Communities (ROCC) or Hāpori Manawaroa ki Murihiku (HMkM) as it is known in Murihiku Southland. ROCC is a Cabinet mandated response to the harms and social drivers of organised crime in our communities. ROCC combats organised crime by combining social and economic intervention with targeted enforcement action. It recognises that organised crime is a barrier to wellbeing. ROCC takes a holistic approach to the problem by building a local network of support and applying social responses that complement enforcement activity and ensure a system-wide focus on long-term prevention.
You will work closely with NZ Police who lead this kaupapa and engage collaboratively across external agencies, linking in where required to connect ROCC to the community.
In this role you will:
- Provide capability support to Murihiku Southland communities looking to develop HMkM initiatives.
- Support existing funded HMkM initiatives.
- Build on the completed needs analysis by maintaining a live overview of funded initiatives, monitoring and evaluating where needs are being met, identify gaps or overlaps, and help to prioritise future funding opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with ROCC staff (Southern ROCC Coordinator and Southern ROCC Senior Advisor).
- Work Collaboratively across support agencies to help collate and share relevant data.
- Provide administrative support associated with the Community Resilience and Whānau Support fund process, local regional group meetings and Murihiku Southland Leadership hui.
- Where appropriate the advisor will work with the Regional Public Services Commissioner (RPSC) to enable Te Aorerekura implementation (action seven) as needed in the region.

We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience supporting initiatives that strategically support stakeholders.
- Has strong interpersonal skills and works well with others (both inside and outside the tīma).
- Has an ability to identify risks, and opportunities for collaboration.
- Ability to apply evidence, monitoring, and evaluation to guide decision-making and support community initiatives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Has strong data analysis, research, evaluation and presentation skills.
- Has good planning and organisation skills.
- Is resilient and able to stay calm under pressure, demonstrate resourcefulness and takes a proactive approach to problem solving.
- Awareness of Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga.
- Has the ability to travel as required.
