We’re looking for a strategic and inclusive leader to drive employment growth and opportunities across the wider Auckland South Region. This role works closely with other Auckland labour market leaders to optimise opportunities and deliver sustainable employment outcomes across the wider Auckland region.

Reporting to the Regional Commissioner, you will identify and deliver strategic initiatives that strengthen local labour markets and help New Zealanders to be safe, strong and independent.

This role provides strategic leadership and collaboration with employers, industry sectors, Iwi, community groups, government agencies and MSD’s Service Delivery Industry Partnerships team. You will also lead a high-performing team of employment professionals, creating a culture where innovation and Te Ao Māori are embedded in daily practice.

What you bring | Ōu pūmanawatanga:

You bring a mix of strategic thinking, operational delivery and mana-enhancing relationship skills, including:

• Proven experience building and sustaining strategic relationships with industry partners, Iwi, and community stakeholders.
• Ability to gather and analyse labour market intelligence and translate insights into practical, data-driven strategies.
• Extensive leadership experience with the ability to inspire, coach and develop high-performing teams.
• Strong business acumen and excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.
• Deep understanding of regional and national labour market trends and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
• A record of successfully delivering positive outcomes for national initiatives in the employment space would be viewed as advantageous.  

A tertiary qualification in business, public sector management, or a related field — or equivalent experience — is highly desirable.

• Salary range: $142,874 – $177,798, with appointments typically made between $142,874 and the midpoint of the band depending on skills, experience and other factors, with scope for progression over time.
