We’re driving a once in a lifetime transformation of services for New Zealanders. IST is a key enabler of this change bringing together strategic thinkers, technology specialists and delivery leaders to design solutions and deliver change while keeping vital services running reliably every day.

About the role | Mō te tūnga:

This is a new role designed to bring structure, clarity, and consistency to how we monitor, interpret, and communicate technology performance across MSD.

You’ll be the one turning raw data into insight and insight into action — shaping decisions that improve efficiency, reduce risk, and optimise technology outcomes for staff and clients alike.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain robust monitoring and reporting frameworks that support strategic decision-making.
  • Drive the collation, analysis, and interpretation of technology performance data across multiple platforms.
  • Work with technical owners to identify what needs to be measured — and why — to highlight opportunities for savings, efficiency, and better user experience.
  • Translate complex datasets into clear, actionable advice for senior IST leaders and governance forums.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities through structured reporting and proactive analysis.
  • Help shape and mature a new insights function that supports continuous improvement and accountability.

  • Demonstrates proven ability to turn technical data into actionable business recommendations.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with engineers, analysts, and leaders to ensure the right data is collected, understood, and used effectively.
  • Brings an analytical mindset coupled with strong storytelling skills — able to “explain the graph and why it matters.
  • Understands how to measure efficiency, risk reduction, and service experience, ideally within complex or regulated environments.
  • Experience in the public sector or large enterprise settings is a plus but not essential.
