Senior Data Engineer and Data Engineer

 

•    2 Fixed term/Secondment opportunities for 24 months
•    Wellington based
•    Senior Data Engineer $119,586  - $145,235 and Data Engineer $103,846 - $125,998

 

We’re looking for data engineers with experience in data modelling that are skilled operators in a Snowflake environment.


Mō te tūnga / About the roles    


MSD – services for the future is a multi-year programme to transform how we operate so we can deliver for New Zealanders and focus our resources and investment on the people who need it. The programme will make significant changes to our underlying systems, processes, and introduce redesigned services that put people first. 


As part of the Insights Group, you’ll help design, build, and maintains data assets required for our analytical and reporting aspirations. Driven by systems, process, and data changes as part of the transformation programme, you will work with our analytical teams and Business Groups to develop the underlying data assets and pipelines required to monitor and support operational and strategic decision-making. 


The role involves working closely with others across the organisation and helping break down tasks into features and stories. You’ll follow an Agile system development lifecycle through to implementation and apply good practices in data management, change integration, and information stewardship. 


This position requires hands-on experience with Snowflake, creating and managing data models from tactical models through to refined models. A solid understanding of data architecture and management strategies is important.


Mōu – Ngā Pūkenga me ngā Wheako / Skills and experience

 

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field or equivalent hands-on experience 
  • Strong background in analysing business, market, and public sector data. 
  • Solid understanding of data modelling, information architecture, Snowflake data warehouse platform, and Informatica. 
  • Ability to convert raw data, applying business models from Informatica, into well-structured and managed data models, that will be used by analysts across the organisation. 
  • Skilled in Snowflake and data modelling, with experience in making decisions about how to deliver the right outputs for the Snowflake environment 
  • Familiarity with the system development lifecycle in an Agile environment 
  • Knowledge of agile principles, data management, and change integration. 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, solve complex problems, and write clearly for different audiences. 
  • Builds strong partnerships and communicates effectively. 
  • Exercises sound judgement and understands political context. 

 

Senior Data Engineer (additional to the skills listed above) 

  • Significant experience in Snowflake and data modelling, including making decisions about how to deliver the right outputs for the Snowflake environment 
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor others 
  • A high level of knowledge across data modelling, information architecture, Snowflake data warehouse platform, and Informatica.
