About our team
Our Finance Group provides critical support for MSD’s business-as-usual activity and our Te Pae Tawhiti transformation programme.
To strengthen how we support MSD’s approximately $40 billon of funding, we are:
- putting in place new corporate platform toolsets over the next few years as our work shifts from collecting and collating financial information to reporting and advice to support decision-making
- implementing modern, user friendly, efficient and effective financial management processes
- changing our ways of working to be more agile and adaptable
- focused on providing our people with training and development opportunities to grow their financial management capability, skills and experience
About the role
This role supports the Strategic Finance Director to provide strategic financial information, advice and insights to our customers to support the Ministry to deliver on its integrated work programme (in excess of $100 million per year).
You will support portfolio owners and project managers by ensuring management reports, budgets and financial plans are prepared, analysed and communicated with stakeholders, including both external and internal financial reports covering operating and capital expenditure.
You will support the team in financial strategy and technical policy development and prepare drafts and comments on Ministerial and Cabinet papers on financial implications that provide recommendations and risk analysis.
About you
We are looking for people with a 'one team' and a 'can-do' attitude, who are proactive and demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills.
Ideally you will be able to:
- Provide accurate technical accounting advice e.g. ‘as a service’ initiatives
- Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work with colleagues across all levels of the organisation
- Effective in communicating financial information and concepts to non-finance professionals with the ability to tailor your message to your audience
- Experience in collating and analysing data to provide meaningful advice and insights for decision making
- Strong organisational skills / able to juggle multiple work items and be agile in managing competing priorities to support the delivery of the Ministry’s priorities
- Adaptable and comfortable working at multiple levels (strategic through to operational transactional tasks) to deliver objectives
- Build and maintain relationships across levels of the organisational structure
- Maintain high attention to detail while keeping sight of how this relates to the big picture
- Show resilience and an ability to negotiate and influence others to improve organisational performance and efficiency
- Relevant tertiary qualification desirable
- CAANZ qualification (or equivalent)

Position Description
Salary range: $102,533.00 - $124,402.00
