About the Role | Mō te tūnga

 

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is delivering one of the most significant transformation programmes in New Zealand’s public service. At the centre of this change are our people – and we are seeking an outstanding leader to ensure they are supported, equipped, and ready for the future.

 

This role reports directly to the Deputy Chief Executive People & Capability and is a key member of MSD’s senior leadership, working in close partnership with the Chief Executive and Leadership Team. As Group General Manager – People, you will play a critical role as MSD’s senior advisor on people, culture, and workforce transformation.

 

You will lead a valued People function spanning the full breadth of workforce, culture, and capability. Your leadership will ensure that MSD’s People Strategy is delivered, aligned with MSD’s Services for the Future, and contributes to strengthening capability across the wider public service.

 

What You’ll Bring | Ōu pūmanawatanga

 

  • Senior leadership experience in large, complex organisations.
  • A track record of shaping and implementing workforce strategy and enabling cultural change.
  • Proven ability to influence at Chief Executive and senior leadership level.
  • Deep understanding of frontline service delivery and the importance of people experience.
  • Commitment to embedding Te Ao Māori perspectives and approaches in people practices.
  • A collaborative, future-focused mindset with people at the centre.
  • Eligibility for NZ Government Secret security clearance.
