Help shape digital experiences that empower New Zealanders.
We’re looking for a talented and strategic Content Designer to join our Digital Communications team at the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).
This is a pivotal role where your work will guide clients and staff to easily understand information and complete the tasks they need to do.
You’ll apply user experience principles, content strategy, and MSD’s frameworks and style guides to create content that is clear, accessible, and tailored to user needs. You’ll collaborate across teams to deliver integrated, inclusive digital content that reflects our values and supports our strategic goals.
What you’ll be doing | Ko te mahi
• Lead content development and management across MSD’s digital channels.
• Write and design content using plain English, while applying accessibility standards and user insights.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and your Communications Team colleagues to develop content that meets audience needs and aligns with MSD’s style and strategy.
• Support information architecture development through user testing and visual presentations.
• Provide expert advice on content best practices, usability, and inclusive design.
• Champion MSD’s visual identity and ensure consistency across all digital touchpoints.
• Embed te ao Māori into your work
What you bring | Ōu pūmanawatanga
• Proven experience designing user-centred content for digital channels.
• Advanced writing and editing skills, with a strong grasp of plain English and grammar.
• Knowledge of SEO, accessibility, information architecture, and NZ Government web standards.
• Experience with CMS platforms and design tools such as Figma.
• Ability to simplify complex information and communicate clearly under pressure.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Familiarity with analytics tools to inform and improve content performance.
• A tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Project management experience is desirable.
