About the role | Mō te tūnga:

 

We are seeking an Analyst or Senior Analyst to join our Employment Insights team. You will provide accurate information, analysis, and advice to enable well-informed decision making and risk assessment. You’ll build strong relationships across the Ministry and with external partners, contributing to projects that make a real difference for our communities.

Ko te mahi | What you’ll be doing

 

•    Deliver high-quality, objective analysis and advice (including responding to enquiries) within set timeframes
•    Monitor, analyse, evaluate, and report on the labour market and MSD’s employment assistance
•    Present information clearly for non-technical audiences (written and verbal)
•    Contribute to and lead projects relating to the labour market and employment
•    Support operational and policy development through evidence-based recommendations
•    Build effective relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and external agencies
•    Support others to build their analytical capability and deliver high quality analysis and advice

What you bring | Ōu pūmanawatanga:

 

•    Strong data and analytical capability, with confidence in setting up robust monitoring and analytical processes and analysing data (e.g. using Microsoft Excel, SAS, etc).
•    Ability to respond to urgent requests under pressure and deliver clear, succinct narratives that highlight the ‘so what?’
•    Translate technical outputs into simple narrative and advice that is easily understood by the leadership team and operational teams
•    Experience investigating and analysing problems, and reaching sound conclusions
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•    Proven experience as a collaborator and relationship builder, both internally and externally, including having a client focus, and commitment to diversity and inclusion 
•    A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., Economics, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Maths, Statistics, or similar) or equivalent experience
•    Enthusiasm, rigour, and a focus on excellence in their work

If you are interested in the Senior Analyst level, you will also need to demonstrate:
•    Advanced technical or analytical skills and experience in complex analysis
•    Ability to lead substantial pieces of work and coordinate input from others
•    Experience mentoring and developing junior staff
•    Breadth of view of organisational issues and understanding of key imperatives across agencies
•    Ability to provide high-quality advice on complex issues independently
•    Experience representing the Ministry externally and taking a leadership role in meetings
•    Proven ability to add value to written communication and present advice to senior management and Ministers
