We’re looking for an Analyst – Reporting to join our team at MSD.

Mō te tūnga / About the role

This role is all about turning data into useful insights. You’ll help our operational, policy, and management teams – and the wider public – understand what’s happening and why. You’ll work closely with people across MSD, including senior leaders and the Minister’s office, to support decisions that affect New Zealanders every day.

You’ll be responsible for creating reports, keeping an eye on key stats, and spotting trends or issues early. You’ll also write clear and meaningful stories to explain what the data shows, helping others make informed choices and find the right solutions.

To do well in this role, you’ll need strong technical and analytical skills, a good understanding of MSD (or the ability to learn quickly), and great communication and relationship skills. You’ll be confident working with data, picking out the important bits, and sharing them in a way that makes sense to others.

Mōu – Ngā Pūkenga me ngā Wheako / Skills and experience

We’re looking for someone who brings a mix of technical skills, strong communication, and a collaborative mindset. You’ll need:
•    A relevant tertiary qualification (such as Economics, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Maths, Statistics, or Operations Research) or similar experience.
•    Experience delivering clear and useful analysis, insights, or advice that can be easily understood and used by operational teams and non-technical audiences.
•    Strong computer and data handling skills, with the ability to work with complex data from different sources using the right tools.
•    Proficiency in SQL, R, Python and Excel for data manipulation, modelling, and visualisation.
•    Experience working in Snowflake or similar cloud-based data environments.
•    Proven ability to work proactively, take initiative, and lead pieces of work independently.
•    Ability to respond quickly and accurately to public and external requests for information, including OIAs and PQs.
•    A good understanding of MSD’s systems, processes, and how the Ministry’s business areas operate.
•    Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and support others.
•    Familiarity with Agile ways of working.
•    Excellent time management and attention to detail.
•    Ability to work well in a fast-paced, high-performing team.
•    A client-focused approach and good business sense.

We welcome your application and look forward to learning more about what you can bring to the team.
