The Official Information team is part of Ministerial and Executive Services (MaES). This group is responsible for drafting replies to MPs and members of the public on behalf of Ministers and the Chief Executive, managing information going across to the Ministers’ office in the form of reports or i-requests, providing responses to Official Information Act requests and Written Parliamentary Questions, as well as managing complaints made to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the Office of the Ombudsman. These functions aid the Ministry and Ministers to be responsive to members of the public as well as facilitating transparency and accountability of the public service and the Government.

We are seeking self-motivated individuals who thrive in a busy environment, are excellent written and oral communicators, and relationship builders. Your proactive nature and judgement as well as your sound critical thinking abilities will assist you in making a meaningful contribution to our Ministerial and Executive Services, and support building trust and confidence in the Ministry.
We have three opportunities available in our Official Information team at an Advisor level. This role involves coordinating and supporting the Ministry’s responses to Official Information Act requests, providing expert advice on the mechanics of the Act and ensuring the Ministry complies with its statutory obligations. You will be working with teams across the Ministry to collate information, critically assess it for release, and drafting responses on information requests. If you are working at the Ministry already, in National Office or at front line, your institutional knowledge of the Ministry’s services would be valuable in this role.

To be successful in this role, you will be/have:
• good knowledge of New Zealand Parliament and government structures and processes – the machinery of government
• familiarity with the structures of relevant statutes, rules and regulations
• an understanding of the policy formation process
• able to work on complex issues, explain your thinking verbally, and have excellent skills writing, with good attention to detail
• good knowledge and experience working with standard office software products e.g. Word, Excel, Adobe
• proven ability in performing a range of tasks under competing demands, producing a quality result on time.
