The Disability Support Services (DSS) Group works to ensure fair access to disability support services in New Zealand, prioritizing those with the greatest needs. Through the DSS Review Programme, the Group is focused on implementing key recommendations to deliver consistent, equitable services, prioritize high-needs individuals, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of DSS, all while upholding Enabling Good Lives (EGL) principles.
Mō te tūnga / About the role:
This pivotal team are essential to the Enabling Good Lives approach and make a significant positive impact on the lives of disabled people, tangata whaikaha and whānau.
The team is diverse and proactively aims to implement a values and principles-based approach to the mahi and communities we work in.
As a team we work as an ally to assist disabled people and their whanau to be aspirational and plan for a good life that connects with their local community, hapu and Iwi.
This role makes a significant contribution to the disability support system and aims to ensure that disabled people, tangata whaikaha and whānau have more choice and control over their lives and the supports they use.
The Tuhono/Connector works alongside disabled people, tangata whaikaha and their whānau in exploring opportunities, creating possibilities, and navigating the disability support system and local community resources using the Enabling Good Lives approach.
Through whanaungatanga (building relationships and connections) and a Mana-enhancing, person-centred approach the Tuhono/Connector empowers disabled people to be aspirational and design their good life plan.

Ōu pūmanawatanga | What you bring:
- A deep understanding of the Enabling Good Lives principles and approach, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability.
- Experience supporting people to think creatively about their life opportunities and how to bring these opportunities into being.
- Links within the communities we serve, including Māori, Pasifika, Rainbow (LGTBI+) people, those new to New Zealand and / or Deaf culture and you will have strong connections to, and knowledge of, the local community as well as the capacity and resources within it.
- Previous experience building and maintaining trusting relationships with a diverse range of people from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt your method of communicating to the situation and person.
- The ability to self-manage and to work independently with a high workload in complex circumstance.

Salary range: $78,222 - $94,689
