Executive Assistant to Regional Commissioner | Northland | Secondment / Fixed-Term Opportunity

•    Full-Time, Secondment or Fixed-term contract to 30 June 2026.
•    Starting salary: B05 $78,222.00 - $94,689.00

 

Location: Based in the Northern Regional Office, Whangarei.

We are seeking a highly skilled Executive Assistant to support the Regional Commissioner in delivering their work programme by providing excellent professional executive services.


You’ll be primarily based at the Northern Regional Office, with occasional work at various sites across the region. You’ll work closely with the Regional Commissioner to foster and maintain strong relationships with internal MSD leadership teams and external agencies. You’ll also collaborate with other Regional Commissioner Executive Assistants to support the wider region.

 

You’ll be part of a team of professionals dedicated to delivering the Ministry’s strategic plans across our Work and Income sites and our network of community partners to support the whānau we serve. Our team is supportive, welcoming, and focused on delivering high performance.

 

What you’ll be doing | He aha tāu e mahi ana

 

As the Executive Assistant, your primary responsibility will be to provide professional executive support and time management for your busy Regional Commissioner. You’ll need to manage multiple deadlines, remain composed in challenging situations, and proactively add value to their work programme.

 

You’ll be intuitive to the Regional Commissioner’s needs and willing to assist wherever necessary. Your approachability and excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to confidently engage with a wide range of community partners and government agencies. You’ll be exposed to sensitive information and must demonstrate high levels of confidentiality, integrity, and trust.


The Regional Commissioner you’ll support is professional, hardworking, and focused on delivering a substantial work programme. They expect a high level of support, and you’ll need to stay two steps ahead to assist with their varied and fast-paced workload.

-    Ability to adapt to changing priorities and demonstrate flexibility
-    Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
-    Strong organisational and planning capabilities
-    Pragmatic mindset with effective problem-solving skills
-    Prior experience in an executive support role, particularly supporting senior-level management, is advantageous
-    A full and clear driver’s licence and the ability to travel within the region is essential

Salary range: $79,200.00 - $95,873.00

The salary is based on relevant knowledge, skills and experience.
