Regional Health Advisor, Southern Region

What you’ll be doing | Ko te mahi

As a Regional Health Advisor, you’ll play a key role in supporting our frontline teams across the Southern Region. Rather than working directly with clients or patients, your expertise will be used to advise and guide our Case Managers and health sector partners. You'll help ensure clients with health conditions, injuries, or disabilities receive the correct supports, services, and benefit entitlements, while supporting pathways towards sustainable employment and wellbeing.

Through your advice and guidance, you'll help ensure clients receive the right support at the right time, reducing barriers to employment and increasing opportunities for sustainable participation in work and community life.

Face-to-face engagement with staff is a vital part of this role, ensuring strong relationships and effective support across all sites. As a trusted source of information and advice, you’ll help our teams navigate health-related matters that impact employment outcomes. Your work will directly contribute to helping clients overcome barriers and achieve their employment goals, by equipping our staff with the right knowledge and support.

Key responsibilities include: 

• Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders in the health and disability sector
• Providing specialist advice on the impact of health conditions, injury, and disability on employment, participation, and benefit entitlement, including workplace accommodations and support options.
• Facilitating training and information sessions for staff and providers.
• Gathering and analysing information to make evidence-based recommendations that align with MSD benefits and entitlements, including advising on the correct health related benefit and supports for clients.
• Championing health and disability responsiveness within MSD and the wider community.
• Travelling throughout the Southern Region to build relationships, provide support, and engage with teams and stakeholders as required.
• Working as part of a national network of Regional Health Advisors and Regional Disability Advisors plus developing strong relationships with Principal Advisors and other specialist colleagues across MSD.

What you’ll need to succeed | Ko tō āhua

This role would suit an experienced health professional who enjoys influencing outcomes through advice, education, and relationship management rather than direct clinical practice.  You'll be confident navigating complex situations, working across health and social service systems, and helping others make informed decisions that improve outcomes for clients.

To be successful in this role, you’ll bring: 

• Relevant qualification and experience as a health practitioner (e.g. nurse, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or similar).
• Experience supporting people with health conditions, injuries, or disabilities in community, rehabilitation, vocational, or advisory environments.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex information and make evidence-based recommendations.
• Confidence providing specialist advice on health-related barriers, employment participation, and support options.
• Excellent relationship management skills and the ability to influence and work collaboratively across a wide range of stakeholders.
• Experience facilitating training, workshops, or presentations.
• An understanding of how health conditions can affect employment outcomes, wellbeing, and access to services and supports.

A clean, full New Zealand Driver Licence is required.

Salary | Utu-ā-tau: $103,815.00 - $125,958.00
