About Historic Claims


Historic Claims, on behalf of the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) manages claims for people who experienced abuse or neglect while in the care, custody or guardianship of Child, Youth and Family or its predecessor agencies before 1 April 2017.


 
Historic Claims works with claimants to help them understand their past experience in care. We acknowledge and recognise the harm claimants have experienced and take steps to put this right.


 
A key focus for Historic Claims is to ensure we deliver the best possible outcomes for claimants, and that they encounter mana manaaki (a positive experience every time) whenever they come into contact with us.

About the role | Mō te tūnga

 

The Team Leader, Information Coordination manages a high performing team that are responsible for applying legislation to requested documents, ensuring compliance with the relevant Acts, and drafting appropriate responses to requests and correspondence from clients under the Privacy and Official Information Acts. 

 

The Team Leader also identifies opportunities for continual improvement and develops recommendations to the Manager, Historic Claims in developing and maintaining efficient and effective policies and processes.

 

As part of a wider operational leadership group, the Team Leader will work collaboratively across geographical and functional areas to ensure consistency and support across teams, contribute towards continuous improvement, and to achieve the best possible outcomes for claimants.

 

Focus of the roles

 

To lead a team that is:

 

  • focused on supporting claimants throughout the claims process.
  • responsible for reviewing and interpreting large amounts of complex information and using this information to inform decision-making.
  • growing staff capability.

 

To lead and motivate people through change.

 

To demonstrate a commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and the development of a service that is culturally responsive and incorporates tikanga Māori.

To be successful in this role your career history will demonstrate your:

 

  • experience leading and motivating a team in an analytical or rules-based environment with a mana manaaki focus.
  • ability to produce quality work in a demanding and deadline driven industry whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy.
  • sound knowledge of the Privacy and Official Information Acts.
  • experience working in a client or customer service industry.
  • sound judgement and political sensitivity.
  • highly effective communication skills – verbal and written.
  • ability to deal with multi-complex issues.
  • be able to build and maintain constructive collaborative relationships.
