About the Crown Secretariat for the Historical Abuse Inquiry

The Government has recently established the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions (the Royal Commission).

The Royal Commission will involve all social and justice Crown agencies involved with children, young people and vulnerable adults in care over the next five years and beyond. Crown agencies have begun to collectively prepare to support the Royal Commission, once it begins its investigations in 2019.

Social service Chief Executives have agreed to a joined up approach and are establishing the cross-government Crown Secretariat for the Historical Abuse Inquiry (the Crown Secretariat) to lead the Crown’s response to, and engagement with, the Royal Commission.

About the Role

This is a strategic policy role on a major, high profile programme that’s a priority for Government.  The Senior Advisor will work closely with the Secretariat Director and Chief Advisor to help deliver the cross agency work programme.

You’ll prepare advice for social service and justice Chief Executives on developing the Crown’s response, and its implications for the social services sector, care systems and the wider public service.    You’ll also provide executive support to governance groups.  Working with the Director, Chief Advisor and work stream leads, you’ll have a role to build trust and confidence in the Crown Secretariat’s effectiveness and Crown response.

You’ll lead work streams and contribute to others, engage with government agencies, broker and convene cross agency working groups and bring together expertise and knowledge to inform and provide advice. You’ll drive relationship management and develop networks at a senior level.

This role is for a self-starter with initiative and proven senior policy experience and influencing skills.   You might be seeking an opportunity to step up into a role with autonomy to influence and impress, deepen your agency collaboration skills, or provide systems thinking.   You’ll be a problem solver, results oriented and a team player.

This is a fixed term role up to 30 June 2019, with the potential for extension.  Secondments are welcomed.  If you have questions about the role, please email Sandra Preston who is the interim Director of the Crown Secretariat,
