Manager Parliamentary and Ministerial Relations - Permanent

 

 

Permanent position  

 

Location:  National Office, Wellington

 

 

We are seeking someone who is solution driven and thrives in a busy environment with excellent planning and stakeholder management skills. Your proactive nature and judgement as well as your sound people leadership and critical thinking will assist you in making a meaningful contribution to the Ministerial and Executive Services (MaES) team and the Ministry. 

 

 

 

About the Group 

 

MaES is responsible for drafting replies to MPs and members of the public on behalf of Ministers and the Chief Executive, managing information going across to the Ministers’ office in the form of reports or i-requests, supporting Parliamentary processes, providing responses to Official Information Act requests and written Parliamentary questions, as well as managing complaints made to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the Office of the Ombudsman. These functions aid the Ministry and Ministers to be responsive to members of the public as well as facilitate transparency and accountability of the public service and the Government.

 

 

 

About the Role

 

This is a newly established role and is looking for someone to make their mark. The Manager Parliamentary and Ministerial Relations leads a team of Senior Advisors to provide replies and advice to Written Parliamentary Questions, and support and advice for Parliamentary and Select Committee processes. The Manager is also responsible for the daily management and support of the Ministry’s private secretaries including their recruitment, training and development. The Manager will be required to regularly engage with the Ministry’s Leadership Team, and other senior leaders across the Ministry, as well as with Ministerial offices and their staff.

To be successful in this role, you will be/have:

 

  • excellent knowledge of the machinery of government
  • familiarity with the structures of relevant statutes, rules and regulations 
  • an understanding of the policy formulation process
  • strong influencing and relationship management skills and be able to quickly establish credibility and trust
  • strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgement in decision making
  • proven ability in performing a range of tasks under competing demands, and producing a quality result, on time
  • ability to adapt to change and strive for improvement.

Salary range: $109,999.00 - $164,999.00
