Graduate Analyst/Analyst/Senior Analyst/Principal Analyst

We’re building a team of analysts, from Graduate to Principal, and we’re hunting for smart, motivated people with expertise across strategy, policy advice, analysis, research or evaluation.  Join us at an exciting time as we form a new multi-disciplinary team to deliver our ambitious work programme.

About you

Are you excited about drawing insights from evidence and data to inform social sector policy?  Do you enjoy collaborating with others?  Do you want to make a difference in the lives of New Zealanders?  We could have the perfect role for you.

What will you be doing?

There’s opportunity for you to lead key areas of the work programme, commission insights, research and evaluation.   Depending on your level of experience and role you are appointed to these may range from discrete and rapid-fire turnaround of insights and advice for the Minister to multi-year research and evaluation programmes.

You will work with our team of data scientists and our partnerships team to commission research and draw out insights to provide evidence and findings for social sector decisions makers and community partners.  You will champion best practice across the social sector and have a key role in building the team and SIA’s capability and standing.

The Insights Group

The Insights Group helps decision makers and advisors across the social sector by making insights, analysis and research about what works for better lives accessible, timely and relevant.

Who is the Social Investment Agency?

We are a small government agency with a big mission - to do what works for better lives.  We demonstrate the value of using data, technology, and people’s lived experience to support decision making across the social system. We trial and champion innovative ways government, NGOs and community can work together. Alongside service users we explore, test and develop tools and insights to help all parts of the social system do more of what works for better lives.

We opened our doors in July 2017 and are now moving from start-up, to grown-up. We’re out to add smart people to our permanent talent pool who are agile, curious and hardworking, and who instinctively care about the wellbeing of others.

Who are we looking for?

We’re aiming to build a high-performing team made up of diverse backgrounds and skillsets that can challenge and support each other.

We’re hiring across the grades from Graduate to Principal. We don’t have a pre-defined set of skills or experience that all candidates must demonstrate but here are some of the skills and experience that we think we need in the mix:

  • Sharp and relevant strategy/policy advice.
  • High quality research, evaluation and analysis skills (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Superb communication – ability to take the big ideas, complex problems and analytical/technical findings and share these in a way that diverse audiences can understand and find compelling.
  • Effective leadership, management and delivery – ability to plan, commission, direct and deliver work for the agency drawing on internal and external capability and expertise.
  • Data literacy and passion for getting the best possible evidence into the decision-making process.
  • Strong collaboration, coordination and influencing skills.

We don’t need you to be skilled in all of these areas simultaneously - we’re open to more specialist as well as generalist candidates. Let us know what you can offer and which role you think you’re suited to.

We welcome enquiries from everyone and value diversity in our workforce.  Talk to us about what flexible work arrangements might work for you and us both.  You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this job.
