Psychologist - Oranga Tamariki

Psychologist –Taranaki Manawatu - Full Time, Fixed Term for 12 months

 

Clinical Services Oranga Tamariki invites applications from Registered Psychologists for fixed term, fulltime positions based within the Taranaki Manawatu region (which includes New Plymouth, Hawera, Whanganui, Palmerston North and Horowhenua areas). Applicants must be registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board. 


Clinical Services is a key service of Oranga Tamariki providing psychological and therapeutic assessments and specialist interventions.  We are establishing an internal service of clinicians in the Taranaki Manawatu region and we welcome applicants who are keen to be part of building this new service with us to support and enable our Social Workers, tamariki and whanau. 

Experience working with children in a care and protection environment, providing assessment and therapy with tamariki and their whanau/caregivers, and assessments of parenting capacity will be an advantage. 

This is a diverse and varied role that provides flexibility in the use of evidence-based intervention tools to achieve positive outcomes for tamariki and their whanau. The successful candidates will gain exposure to comprehensive parenting assessment work, DBT, PCIT and programmes with a Te Ao Maori focus. The successful applicants will report to the Psychologist Team Leader.

What you will bring?
•    Be a registered Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board with a current annual practicing certificate
•    Proven work experience as a Psychologist with children and young people would be an advantage
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt to your audience
•    Strong engagement and relationship building skills
•    Culturally responsive
•    Empathy, patience and ability to see past what someone may be struggling with
•    Sound judgement and organisational skills
•    The ability to manage risk and make difficult decisions
•    A positive outlook and supporting nature
•    Ability to discern and unpack complex situations
•    Understanding of the Oranga Tamariki Act
