Director, Regional Public Service - East Coast

This role can be based in either Hawkes Bay or Tairawhiti.
The Director: Regional Public Service is a pivotal leadership role at the interface of central government, regional leadership, and community outcomes. This position provides high-level strategic and operational advice to the Regional Public Service Commissioner (RPSC) and plays a critical role in shaping and implementing government priorities across the East Coast Region.
As Director, you will oversee the Regional Leadership Groups, guiding their work programmes and ensuring effective collaboration across agencies and stakeholders. You will act as a trusted conduit between national strategies and regional delivery, building strong connections that enable integrated, impactful outcomes for communities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the development and implementation of regional strategies and plans.
- Supporting the implementation of national priorities within the region through effective engagement with partners at all levels.
- Establishing and maintaining influential relationships with senior stakeholders to drive alignment and integration of initiatives.
- Providing authoritative, evidence-based advice and policy analysis to the RPSC.
- Leading and managing a small, high-performing team (Lead Adviser and Senior Adviser and Senior ROCC Advisor).
The ideal candidate will bring:
- A proven track record of influencing and sustaining senior-level relationships across government and beyond.
- Extensive experience advising and supporting executive leaders within the public sector.
- Strong project management and delivery expertise in complex and dynamic environments.
- A clear commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to inclusive leadership practices.
- Sound judgement, discretion, and resilience in managing competing priorities.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel as the role requires.
Position Description
Salary range: $142,874.00 - $177,798.00
