The Social Policy Group brings together the Ministry’s policy functions in one place and is an integrated, professional and thought-leading provider of advice to the Government.
The Group provides policy advice concerning children and families, young people, working age people and older people. Our advice in these areas has a focus on:
• The care and protection of children and young people, with a particular focus on vulnerable children • The successful transition of young people to adulthood • Initiatives to support families • Family violence and sexual violence • Initiatives to support the social infrastructure of communities • Social assistance and employment issues • Welfare reform • Social housing • Issues faced by people with a health condition or disability • Retirement income, employment and positive ageing for older New Zealanders.
