Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the Role:
Are you an organised, collaborative and proactive professional with an interest in driving equitable outcomes for disabled people, tāngata whaikaha Māori and their whānau?
As a Senior Advisor – Māori, you will communicate with confidence, collaborate with others, provide evidence-informed advice and day-to-day operational support to the Kaihautū Chief Advisor Māori.
Your role will be essential in increasing the effectiveness, capacity, and impact of the Kaihautū by managing key tasks, preparing background material, and fostering strong relationships both inside and outside the organisation.
You will also be responsible for prioritising tasks and planned engagements for the Kaihautū, ensuring they have all necessary background material, preparing aide-mémoires, and collating advice to support informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Keep track of tasks and ensure the team meets its priorities.
- Support the Kaihautū Chief Advisor Māori with scheduling and organising meetings, including administration, travel arrangements and payments.
- Write ministerial briefings, memos, and reports by gathering and summarising key information.
- Represent the Kaihautū in meetings as required and strengthen relationships through inclusive approaches that are culturally grounded and disability responsive.
- Problem solve, plan and prioritise meetings and events for the Kaihautū, making sure they have all the information they need.
- Provide advice and support to teams across the Ministry to progress work programme delivery.
Ko wai koe | About You:
You have an understanding of te ao Māori, te reo me ona tikanga Māori. You can confidently work with people and effectively draw on cultural practices to build strong relationships both inside and outside of the organisation.
You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and experience in preparing reports, briefings, and memos. You can communicate complex ideas clearly and accurately for a range of audiences, including tāngata whaikaha Māori, Turi Māori and their whānau.
You are good at problem solving, organised and proactive, able to manage tasks, plan ahead, and anticipate the needs of the Kaihautū.
You are confident with administration systems, document management practices, calendar management and making travel arrangements. You ensure that Kaihautū has the right information at the right time, to support them in their role as a member of the Executive Leadership Team at the Ministry.
Ideally you will bring lived experience to inform your work and be able to confidently articulate the barriers experienced by tāngata whaikaha Māori and their whānau.
You will work collaboratively to support work programme delivery, and make a contribution towards system level change so that disabled people, tāngata whaikaha Māori and their whānau can thrive.
To undertake this role successfully, you will either be a disabled person or be able to establish credibility and trust with the disability community.
You will have empathy and an understanding of the unique and diverse experiences of disabled people, tāngata whaikaha Māori and their whānau.

Salary range: $102,533.00 - $124,402.00
