Mō te tūnga | About the role:
We’re looking for a passionate Kairangahau Māori to bring a mātauranga Māori perspective to data, insights, research, and evaluation.
Your work will help guide the New Zealand Disability Strategy (NZDS) and improve outcomes for tāngata whaikaha Māori and their whānau.
You will provide expert advice, lead research projects, and ensure Māori voices and values are reflected in our work.
You will draw upon your experience and knowledge of mātauranga Māori and how this intersects with Western paradigms. Weaving both approaches, recognising the tensions and how to work through them will be highly valued.
This is a fixed term role ending 19 December 2025.
What you’ll do:
- Provide specialist advice on Māori data and an understanding of the issues pertaining to Māori in terms of data.
- Provide specialist advise on mātauranga Māori research, and evaluation methodologies and how to implement them within a government context.
- Lead projects that strengthen the evidence base for tāngata whaikaha Māori wellbeing.
- Support the design of monitoring and reporting frameworks that reflect Māori data interests.
- Mentor and support others in the team to grow mātauranga Māori research capability.
- Build strong relationships with government agencies, the disability community, and key stakeholders.
Mōu | About you:
You will have working knowledge of mātauranga Māori research and evaluation methods and an understanding of the disability data ecosystem and its challenges.
You will have demonstrated ability to provide strategic advice and influence decision-making.
Your strong relationship management skills will see you confidently building relationships particularly with Māori and tāngata whaikaha Māori.
You will have strong experience leading research and evaluation projects and a solid understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Māori / Crown relationship.
To undertake this role successfully you will either be a disabled person, or you will be able to establish credibility and trust with the disability community.
Some ability in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga is preferred.

Salary range: $102,533.00 - $124,402.00
