Whaikaha – Ministry of Disabled People’s role is to provide coherent, system-level leadership and advice that aligns priorities and focus across government to improve the lives of Disabled and Deaf people.
 
Whaikaha is a standalone ministry from 01 December 2024, and this is an exciting time to join the organisation. 

 

 

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the Role:

 

As the Engagement Specialist you will play a key role in supporting the development of a refreshed New Zealand Disability Strategy by designing, leading, and coaching others to deliver a comprehensive engagement programme. 


You will lead engagement with the disability community and key stakeholders such as, business, industry, central government agencies, and local government, to ensure broad and inclusive participation. 


The role also involves supporting the delivery of the engagement process for the New Zealand Sign Language Strategy.


Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Using engagement frameworks to develop a comprehensive engagement strategy.
  • Providing advice to Senior Leadership on engagement best practice. 
  • Lead the core thought leadership and strategic planning for the Engagement work programme.

 

This is a fixed term role ending 27 June 2025. 

Ko wai koe | About You:

 

You will have strong experience leading and providing technical leadership on complex community-led development or engagement programmes.

 

Your in-depth knowledge of stakeholder management and engagement methodology will showcase your proven track record of fostering strategic relationships.

 

You will have strong project management skills and the ability to meet key project milestones and delivery dates. 

 

You will have proven experience working with a wide range of stakeholders and building long-term relationships to influence and drive change.

 

Your proven ability in programme resource planning, reporting, and ensuring staff are effectively deployed to achieve goals will set you up for success.

 

You will have strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to set clear goals and drive transformative change across multiple teams.


To undertake this role successfully, you will either be a disabled person or be able to establish credibility and trust with the disability community. 

 

You will have empathy and an understanding of the unique and diverse experiences of disabled people.

Salary range: $117,419.00 - $174,069.00
